The story is very realistically written. It could happen to just anyone. The characters are dynamic and fully developed. There's even deuteragonist in this book which happens to be my favorite character rather than the protagonist himself. David is just easy to love. He has such a gentle soul and so pure almost like a guardian angel.Aside from that, I am also loving the chemistry between the two male leads in this book. They are really fun to be around. They bickers and fight too. Oh so male. I like that. Oh, and David of course says the sweetest things. “But you know what I want most of all?”“What?” Zach whispered again.“I want you to do what you want. Change the world—or not.Build a ladder to the stars—or not. Be what you want, ‟cause whateverit is, it‟ll be great because it's you. And I love you.”Zach‟s eyes were blurry, but he could see well enough to kissDavid. “Thank you,” he said against those soft lips. The only part that doesn't jive well with me due to my own personal preference is.... who is topping whom and that the protagonist has larger taller built than his protector. LOL. Silly sentiments. I know. All in all, it was one heartwarming coming of age romance story with a tragedy. Sure, there are dark hours and horrific mentions of abuse and torture but all that does not cloud the main focus on the pure love between two childhood friends that's bittersweet yet beautiful. What doesn't kill you would only make you stronger and victories would be all the move sweeter still.
